Factories, universities, school districts, municipalities, and other institutional customers were investing millions of dollars in solar installations, lighting upgrades, heating and cooling systems, building controls, and other infrastructure intended to reduce energy consumption and carbon emissions.
Completing the retrofit was only the beginning, because customers also needed to know whether the improvements were performing as promised, where energy was still being wasted, and how to demonstrate the results to boards, administrators, taxpayers, parents, employees, and other stakeholders.
